Gary Nash

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of the beloved Gary Nash, class of 1954 of our great Alma Mater. As a true Georgian, he battled a long illness valiantly but was called home on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, leaving wife and best friend of 60 years, Marcia, children and loved ones Nicole, Metry Seaga, Shawna/Kevin Mclaughlin, John, Dominique/Peta-Gaye, grandchildren Christian, Noah, Dylan, Reine, Jade, Liam, Meadow and Great-grandson Gabriel.

As one of the renowned Swimming Nashes, he represented STGC along with his brothers Phillip, Kaye and Cedric during their dominance  of the 1940s and 50s in schoolboy competitions. He also swam and played water polo at the national level, competing for Jamaica at the Pan American Games, the Central American and Caribbean Games and the West Indies Swimming and Water Polo Championships. Gary was also a part of the famed 1955 Manning Cup winning team where he played outside right, later being selected for the All Manning team.

Gary was a blessed and very special man. His qualities as a person outshone any athletic or career accomplishments. If you looked at the fruits of the Holy Spirit, you would be hard-pressed to find one that does not apply to this caring, kind, gentle, generous and fun loving man. His nature served him well in his career, which for the most part spanned decades in the Jamaican shipping industry where he realized several successes. He was also known for teaching countless adults and children the invaluable life-skill of swimming.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion and generosity of spirit.

May his soul rest in peace.
